Udupi, Nov 3: Dr M T Raju, the district in-Charge secretary, paid visits to and inspected hostels in Byndoor and Kundapur taluks run by the Social Welfare and Backward Communities Department, Christian schools, and Ashrams on Friday, November 3.

During his visit, Dr Raju meticulously examined the students' accommodations, kitchen facilities, food storage areas, bathrooms, toilets, common areas, and the overall hostel environment. He emphasized the importance of creating a conducive atmosphere for the students to excel in their studies and urged officials to provide them with better educational opportunities.

Dr Raju also took note of the shortage of staff in the hostels, the monthly stipend of Rs 1,000 given to the cleaning personnel, and the honorarium of Rs 1,000 provided to part-time teachers who offer evening tuition to the children. He assured that the government would be apprised of these concerns, and steps would be taken to increase the payments accordingly.

The district in-charge secretary commended the hostels he visited for their cleanliness and catering services. He encouraged the staff to maintain and further improve these standards in the future.

Dr Raju also interacted with students in the hostels and offered advice to Ashram school students on enhancing their general knowledge and mathematical skills.

Present at the event were deputy commissioner Dr K Vidyakumari, zilla panchayat chief executive Prasanna H, deputy director of Social Welfare Department Anita Madluru, project coordinator of ITDP department Doodpir, Backward Classes welfare officer Hakappa R Lamani and others.
