I stand by Om Puri: Anupam Kher

New Delhi, Aug 29 (IANS) Actor Anupam Kher, a staunch supporter of Anna Hazare's anti-corruption movement, came out in support of his industry colleague Om Puri who is facing flak because of his bitter remarks against politicians.

"I stand by Om Puri who merely echoed publicly what is openly said a million times in millions of homes everyday," Anupam posted on micro-blogging site Twitter.

Kher said that Om is not only an outstanding actor but also a true Indian.

"Om Puri apart from being an outstanding actor, is also a True Indian who echoed thoughts of Millions of Us. I stand by him. Do you?," he added.

Om, 60, created a stir Friday with his speech attacking politicians. He told the thousands gathered that he feels "ashamed when an IAS or IPS officer salutes an anpad (uneducated) or ganwar (illiterate) who is a neta (political leader)". He has now apologised for his remarks but faces a privilege motion in Rajya Sabha for them.

Om Puri was expressing the same sentiments as most of the indians repeated time and again as an echo of Anna Hazare. He did not make any linguistic mistake. May be I might have expressed my opinion in even stronger words. I am adamant about Anna's doctrine which and cannot always be expressed in soft words.
Om Puri is identified as a punjabi hero and used punjabi phrases for his anguished. Our parliamentarians should learn punjabi language first
and then scrutinize a master's phrase. We cannot change the attire of the language. Om Puri has a sense of pleasantness. He only tried to express the people's heart.
Our objective is economic welfare of the common man. We want to enjoy both our defeat as well as our glory with the people on a common platform. We can find this opportunity in the popular language.
we need to possess common sense. Welfare is based on charity. It is a mythological belief as explained by Mahatma Ghandhi - an old dictum. Economic welfare is a dictate of law in the constitution as demanded by Anna Hazare.
India is a socialistic republic and is committed to economic welfare.
