Kasargod, Nov 26: A heartening transformation unfolded at the Aided Lower Primary School in Kakkebettu village, Kasargod, as a Karnataka-based NGO, MakeSomeoneSmile Helping Hand, infused Rs 3.5 lac into the 92-year-old institution. Inspired by the plot of the 2018 Kannada movie, 'Sarkari Hiriya Prathamika Shale Kasaragodu: Koduge: Ramanna Rai,' the NGO, through its 'Make it Colourful' project, aimed to uplift the school's infrastructure and create an improved learning environment for approximately 50 students in classes one to four.

MakeSomeoneSmile Helping Hand, led by Guruprasad Shetty, seized the opportunity presented by the school's headmistress, Veena Kumari K, to initiate the renovation project. The NGO, known for its impactful initiatives in Karnataka, aims to revitalize three schools each year, particularly those in the government sector.

Guruprasad Shetty expressed pride in the NGO's growth, highlighting their successful renovation projects in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Chikkamagaluru districts since 2020. He shared, "Our journey began six years ago, and the significant challenge of raising Rs 10,000 for an event has now evolved into the successful transformation of 10 schools. The recent completion of our highest-budget project at the DK ZP Government Upgraded Higher Primary School in Badanaje, Beltangady, costing Rs 4.5 lac, has further inspired positive change."

Initially focused on providing essentials like umbrellas, stationery, and books to about 20 schools, the NGO expanded its impact through collaboration with like-minded professionals on a WhatsApp group. Guruprasad revealed the unique challenge and decision-making process involved in taking on the Kerala school renovation. He said, "Despite initial concerns about the school being outside Karnataka, we made an exception due to its deplorable condition and proximity to the border. Although our typical criterion involves a minimum of 100 students, we recognized the urgent need for support in this case, with less than 50 students. The fabrication work is complete, with vibrant paintings showcasing the art and culture of both Karnataka and Kerala remaining."

Headmistress Veena Kumari K expressed the school's delight at the positive response and exceptional execution of the renovation. She acknowledged the commendable support from parents and mentioned the unique decision to opt for tiled flooring, causing a slight delay in completion but contributing to a lasting improvement.
