Mangaluru, Nov 27: Mother of 22-year-old youth belonging to ST community, who is missing since one and half month, urged police to search for him.

Mother brought this matter to the notice of city police commissioner Anupam Agarwal in the meeting that was organized on Sunday to hear the grievance of SC and ST communities in the city.

Mother said, “My son wanted buy second hand bike from my neighbour youth. He also gave him Rs 25000. However, he did not give him bike even after a month. Hence, my son asked him to return the money. My neighbour youth took my son saying that he has some work for 10 days. However, my son has not returned after that.”

Police officer of Kavoor police station, under the limits of which this incident has taken place, said, “The neighbouring house youth has confessed that he has taken Rs 25000 from the son of woman and he has assured that he will return the same. Calls that are made from the mobile phone of the youth are also being verified.”

Leader of ST communities S P Anand urged the city police commissioner to take this issue seriously and action to trace the missing youth.

A leader of ST community asked the police commissioner curtail the collection of funds near temple fairs on the pretext of helping medical treatment of poor people.

A Dalit leader said that four tiger dance troupes of ST community were not allowed to offer vow service near a temple in the city. Replying to the accusation, ACP Mahesh Kumar said, “All troupes are allowed to dance. We have video record of the same.”

Some ST leaders objected people misusing SC/ST act. Some other leaders expressed concern that SC/ST youths are becoming addicts of online games. The leaders also urged the city police commissioner to open study centres for competitive exams including civil service examinations.

City police commissioner said that police personnel should treat the public in respectful manner when they visit police stations.
