Udupi: Extensive collection drive for old footwear to be held from Nov 30-Dec 2

Udupi, Nov 27: Nadige, a collection drive of old footwear will be held at MGM College campus from November 30 to December 2. This information was given by organizer of the programme Avinash Kamath.

Giving details of the campaign at a press conference that was held in the city on Monday, Kamath said, “A huge collection drive of old footwear is organized at MGM College grounds from November 30 to December 2. Public can donate their old footwear that is in good condition. This would be your contribution to ‘Nadige’ – Thousand steps.

“The campaign will run for three days. International fame cine artiste Dinesh Holla will inaugurate the event. Vishwanath Shenoy, founder of Sanskriti Vishwa foundation and Sulatha Bhandary, president of Manipal Mahila samaja will be the chief guests.

“All the collected footwear will be given as raw material to renowned GreenSole company functioning in Mumbai. It will manufacture new sandals and donate the same free of cost to poor people who cannot afford to buy new footwear throughout the country. GreenSole is successfully handling this activity from 2017 which is complimentary to save environment. So far GreenSole has donated more than six lac pairs of sandals.

“This is the first campaign of its kind in coastal Karnataka in which the whole community will partake. In the valedictory function which will be held on December 3 founder of GreenSole Ramesh Dhami and Sriyansh Bhanda will take part. On that day, 75 selected primary school students of Udupi will be given a bag manufactured from old clothes, a sitting mat and new footwear manufactured from old footwear in the presence of the media and public. Within a month after the campaign, we will distribute more bags, mats and footwear to more poor people of Udupi. Many organizations and people have assured their cooperation for this project.

“An interactive session is organized with Ramesh Dhami and Sriyansh Bhandary at Jagannatha auditorium near the city police station of Udupi on December 4 at 4.30 pm. They will speak about the adventures of youth icons of the country and their unique work,” he said.
