Mangaluru, Nov 30: Man requires only humanity in between wealth and status. “Everybody should inculcate it. Everybody should develop the quality of rushing to the spots of accidents, attending to injuries and saving lives,” said state award recipient social worker Charmadi Hasanabba. He was speaking reciprocating to the programme held to honour him at Mangaluru Press club on Wednesday.
“The injured should be provided help before everything else during accidents. Taking photographs of the spot and fighting with people who caused the accidents is not right. The work of saving lives should be given priority. Staying behind during accidents, fearing police cases and witnessing is not right,” he said.
“Felicitations do not make me proud. Saving lives of the injured during accidents is my first priority. It is the only matter that gives me satisfaction. I do not remember the number of people I helped. Helping the needy is my work. I feel that my service was fulfilling when people who received help from me expressed their gratitude. I have considered that as my felicitation,” he said.
V4 news managing director Lakshman Kunder inaugurated the programme. Mangaluru press club president P B Harish Rai presided over the programme. District working journalists’ association president Srinivas Nayak Indaje and Patrika Bhavan trust president Ramakrishna R were present.
Press club secretary B N Pushparaj welcomed. Chief secretary Ibrahim Adkastala proposed a vote of thanks. Sathish Ira compered the programme.
Ambulance service on Charmadi soon
“There has been a significant decrease in the number of accidents at Charmadi Ghat due to widening of road and development. But I have decided to provide ambulance service as a precaution during emergencies. It will be a free service within a radius of 50 kilometres from Charmadi,” said Hasanabba. “The state government has presented me Rs five lac during Rajyotsava felicitations. I will be using that amount to buy the ambulance. An ambulance costs Rs eight lac. We, the family members will be borrowing the balance amount by forming a trust. My three sons will shoulder the responsibility. We will be repaying the loan in instalments. The ambulance will arrive within a few days. The trust is being registered. Our ambulance will provide free service to anybody who calls for it,” he said.
“Do not sit around arguing during accidents. Try for a compromise, pay the compensation and go in peace. We will have to wait unnecessarily for money if we file a case and wait for a court verdict. Provide moral support to both the parties during accidents. Do not ever think of stealing the valuables of accident victims at the spot,” he said.
