Puttur, Nov 30: Police arrested a man on the accusation of giving an intoxicated drink to a woman in the night at a bus stand, taking her to deserted area, sexually assaulting and escaping from the spot.

The police arrested Samshuddin Asgar Ali (23), a native of Aryapu village, presently residing at Bannur village. The victim woman is native of Chennarayapatna of Hassan.

The victim woman works as a labourer in a house of Aryapu and had returned to Puttur after visiting her native place. The woman was standing at the bus stand in the night on November 24 when Asgar Ali, who is not known to her, offered her a drink. As soon as the woman drank the drink she felt giddy and the accused took her to deserted place and sexually assaulted her and escaped from the spot.

The woman who was severely ill was taken to Puttur government hospital. A case was filed in this connection at Puttur city police station. The accused was arrested on the evening of November 28 at Puttur bus stand.
