Bantwal, Sep 12: A gram panchayat in the taluk has offered to provide hot mid-day meals to nursery students, similar to that of ‘Akshara Dasoha’ being held in schools.  This was decided at an extraordinary general body meeting of Sangabettu gram panchayat on Saturday September 10.
 
The extraordinary general body meeting of Sangabettu gram panchayat was chaired by its president Prabhakar Prabhu. The junk food provided to nursery students have been causing stomach upsets and their parents have opposed it.
 

It was also decided to begin mid-day hot meals at the Anganawady with the assistance of Stree Shakti self-help-groups, in the model of state-run schools.  A proposal will be sent to state authorities in this regard to provide financial assistance to the gram panchayat. Anganawady overseer Indira provided information on nutritious food.
 
Sangabettu gram panchayat vice-president Devappa Karkera, members Satish Poojary, Sandesh Shetty, Sridar N P, Benedicta D’Costa, Jalaja, Vani, Susheela, and Gulabi were present on the occasion. Gram panchayat secretary Muralidar compered the programme.
