Mangaluru, Jan 7: Cases of Covid-19 infection are increasing in Karnataka by the day. Plan is afoot to administer the booster dose of the vaccine to control the pandemic. Recently, 1,140 doses of vaccine arrived in Dakshina Kannada district from Bengaluru.
Karnataka has already received 30,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine. These are being distributed to all the districts.
From January 9, the vaccine will be administered at all taluk hospitals including Wenlock Hospital of Mangaluru. Wenlock has been given 580 doses while 140 doses each have been sent to four taluk hospitals as per the information provided by health department officials.
This time around Corbevax vaccine is being given instead of Covishield and Covaxin. From January 5, registration to get the vaccination jabs can be done through Cowin app.
Those who have completed six months or 26 weeks after taking their second dose of Covishield or Covaxin vaccines and who are above 18 years and those above 60 years and above all those who have not taken precautionary dose, can take the Corbevax Covid-19 vaccine booster dose. Those with lower immunity and health workers can also take the jabs.
Vaccines will be administered at district Wenlock Hospital of Mangaluru, taluk hospitals of Bantwal, Beltangady, Puttur and Sullia on every Tuesday and Friday from 9 am to 1 pm.
Health department does not know whether they will get more vaccine doses after the present 1,140 doses get over. The department is mulling over the matter and a plan based on the demand for vaccines will be chalked out in future.
Udupi district has received 540 doses and action is being taken to administer the same to Covid warriors and adults.
