Kundapur, Jan 24: A case of fraud has been registered at Kollur police station against an individual who failed to return a excavator vehicle after a financial transaction in 2020.

The victim, a resident of Mangaluru, purchased a 2012 model excavator vehicle for Rs 10 lac in 2020 from a seller in Mangaluru. The vehicle's registration was subsequently transferred to the buyer's name at the Udupi RTO office. However, in May 2021, a person identified as Sumit from Nellore, Karkala, approached the complainant expressing interest in buying the excavator.

After negotiations, Sumit agreed to purchase the excavator for a total of Rs 8.5 lac, with an upfront payment of Rs 1 lac. The complainant received the initial amount in their Canara Bank account. However, Sumit assured that the remaining Rs 7,50,000 would be paid immediately and took possession of the vehicle registration and the JCB.

Despite almost two and a half years passing since the initial purchase, the outstanding amount has not been paid, and neither has the excavator vehicle been returned. The victim has reported this incident to the Kollur police, who have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the fraudulent activity.
