Naveen Patnaik Writes to PM, Seeks Petrol Price Cut

Bhubaneswar, Sep 18 (IANS): Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Saturday wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking a roll-back of the recent petrol price hike.

In his letter, he said the latest hike of more than three rupees per litre was the third hike in the current year, the first two being Rs.2.50 on Jan 18 and Rs.5 on May 17.

"Thus, the net hike during the last eight months is almost Rs.l1 per litre which is a hike of around 20 per cent" said the letter, a copy of which is with IANS.

"Such a huge increase in price is affecting the prices in other sectors, as a result of which the general inflation rate, which is around 10 percent may go up further," the letter said.

"I would request you to kindly consider a roll-back in the price of petrol to reduce the burden of inflation on the common man," it said.
