New Delhi, Mar 12: The Supreme Court has stepped in to halt the upcoming board examinations for classes 5, 8, 9, and 11 in Karnataka. The decision was prompted by concerns over a notification issued by the state government, which was deemed to be in violation of Section 30 of the Right to Education Act.
The controversy began on March 7 when a division bench of the Karnataka High Court initially approved the state government's plan to conduct board exams for these classes. However, questions about the legality of such exams quickly surfaced.
Upon reviewing the matter, the Supreme Court found that the notification for these exams appeared to contravene Section 30 of the Right to Education Act. This section ensures that no child is subjected to any form of examination until the completion of elementary education.
