Mangaluru, Apr 1: The soaring temperatures in coastal Karnataka are becoming increasingly unbearable for residents, as well as animals and birds. However, special arrangements have been made at Pilikula Biological Park to ensure the comfort of its inhabitants.
As the mercury rises, people are resorting to drinking tender coconut water and consuming watermelon to beat the heat. Meanwhile, Pilikula, spanning over 150 acres and housing more than 1000 species of animals, birds, and reptiles, has implemented measures to keep its residents cool.
Water is sprinkled four to five times a day on animals like tigers, hippopotamuses, and birds to help them cope with the heat. Sprinklers have been installed across the biological park, allowing animals and birds to cool off as water cascades down from above. Additionally, water tanks and ponds have been constructed for animals to immerse themselves in.
The roofs of animal and bird cages have been painted white to reflect heat, and coconut palms have been strategically placed to provide shade. Reptiles also benefit from water being sprinkled from above. These efforts ensure that the animals and birds at Pilikula remain comfortable during the summer months.
Jayaprakash Bhandary H, the director of the park, shared this information, highlighting the sanctuary's commitment to the well-being of its inhabitants.
