Moodbidri: Jain Community Celebrates ‘Jeeva Dayastami’

Moodbidri, Oct 5: ‘Jeeva Dayastami’, one of the important events celebrated by the Jain community, was held here on Tuesday October 4.

Special ‘pujas’ were held in 18 Jain ‘Basadis’ and Jain Mutts across the taluk here on Tuesday.

The religious discourses by religious leaders were also held at different Jain mutts.

Swami Charukirti Bhattaraka of Jain Mutt offered special ‘puja’ along with Swami Girisagar with the ‘Chaturmasa Vrat’ which was a speciality during Jeeva Dayastami celebrations.

Nearly 5,000 religious men and nuns from across the undivided Dakshina Kannada district participated in the celebrations.

Over 75 youth, both men and women, were engaged in cleaning the premises of the mutt here and preparing food for the occasion.

The Jain Mutt provided food without onion, garlic, and sugar as per the custom of the celebrations.
