Bengaluru, Apr 7: Former deputy chief minister and BJP rebel candidate for Shivamogga Lok Sabha constituency K S Eshwarappa is facing an FIR for violating the election code of conduct.
According to reports, the FIR was lodged for organizing a political event without obtaining necessary approval from the election officer.
Eshwarappa, who has opted to contest as an independent candidate, participated in religious rituals at the Ambutheertha temple in Nonaboor village, Theerthahalli. Subsequently, he allegedly conducted a meeting with 50 to 60 individuals in the courtyard of the temple priest's nearby residence.
During the gathering, a temporary platform was erected, and approximately 50 chairs and a handheld microphone were utilized. It is reported that Eshwarappa addressed the gathering with political intentions.
In an official press statement released on Saturday, the Election Commission stated that Eshwarappa's event constituted a clear violation of the election code of conduct. Consequently, an FIR has been registered against him in accordance with the orders of the local court.
