Kuwait, Oct 8: 'United Mangloreans Kuwait (UMK)' a group of talented artists under the leadership of Agnel Saldanha with the motto 'Our talent - Help for the underprivileged' organized its most awaited charity show on Friday October 7, at American International School from 5.30 pm onwards.

The show comprised melodious songs, foot tapping dances, and a hilarious Konkani comedy drama – 'Sangon Mugdana' in aid of 'White Doves' Mangalore.

The programme started with anchors of the day Sanjay Baretto and Joyce Fernandes formally welcoming the audience. The UMK members gathered on the stage by welcoming audience in a unique style with banners mentioning all the three shows and their cause. Mind-blowing songs 'Kedna Kedna', 'Don Kalzan Ek Jalim', 'Yogitha Nikk Swagatha' were sung by Nancy, Nirmala, Markus, Renita and Purandar manchi. Foot tapping Konkani Folk dance, Children's dance and 'Bollywood Fusion' were performed by Joyce, Vinitha, Glenda, Juliet, Sandra, Sunil, Johnson, Nelson, Roshan, Prakash, Blessiya, Nichole, Riya, Iral, Irisha, Swizzal, Sania, Sara, Delma, Fedora, Priyanna, Mariet, Suzzette, Marvin, Favin, Glaron and Baby Krisha, Renwick, Samantha, Josline, Robin, Shannon, Neil, Angel, JoelandAndrea.

The sponsors of the event Dr Sneh Lata (Nuna) Goel, Vincent Fernandes and Vishal Goel along with Chief Guest Fr Noel D'Almeida were welcomed to the stage for lighting of the Traditional lamp. Gurkar of UMK Agnel Saldanha welcomed the audience and explained the achievements of UMK through the Kuwait public towards good deeds. Agnel Saldanha informed that after deducting all the expenses they can manage to give Rs 11,10,000 (11.1 lac) to 'White Doves' excluding the donation collected from the audience through donation box circulation.

The main sponsors of the event Dr Sneh Lata (Nuna) Goel and Vincent Fernandes were felicitated with Momentoes and flower bouquets. Co-sponsors, the contributors of the program like the director of the drama, music director, choreographers along with the various media persons were felicitated with bouquets. Chief guest Fr Noel D'Almeida and Dr Nuna Goel spoke few words appreciating the efforts of UMK towards a good cause. Visiting priests Fr James D'Souza and Fr Melvyn Fernandes were also felicitated with bouquets. Vrinda Lewis thanked every one who supported the noble cause.

A documentary on 'White Doves' was showed on the screen to give information to the audience. White Doves is a charity organization of the laity truly committed to uplift the downtrodden on the lines of Blessed Mother Theresa's organization founded in Kolkatta. It is a lay NGO that runs two destitute homes in the Mangalore city and takes care of more than 60 ill or abandoned and devastated women, small kids and men, with help from philanthropists in the city. While the primary aim of the organization is to tend to those souls who have no one to look to, it says, sometimes it comes across incidents that are hard to believe and totally inhuman. 'White Doves' mostly picks up its inmates from the streets or when somebody has no one to fall back on or to care for.

The much-awaited drama 'Sangon Mugdana' started with a big bang as expected. The team kept up the tempo of laughter emanating from the audience throughout while also bringing out various shades of emotions. The artists Agnel Saldanha, Alexander Fernandes, Gladys Pinto, Kevin D'Souza, Levnis Suares, Lucy Aranha, Macleen Rodrigues, Mary Saldanha, Rajesh Fernandes, Remi Cornelio, Santhosh Rodrigues, Sathish Saldanha, Victor Saldanha, Vincent Coelho and Vinnifred D'Souza gave their maximum to fill the life in the characters of drama.

The drama was written by Pradeep Barboza, Paladka and directed by Ronald D'Souza Mulki. Background scores were provided by Suneeth Noronha and stage setting was done by Manoj Parangipet, Levnis Suares and Anand Pais. The choreography for dances was by Joyce, Sunil, Vrinda, Renwick, Andrea and Joel Pinto. Make-up was done by Ajay Gosh and Ledwin Bothelho and lights and sound was provided by ILLUMINATIONS (Anand D'Souza).

When most of the major associations are struggling to organize programs due to lack of support, it is really highly appreciable that some individuals gathering together to help for a good cause with a mind blowing program to the entire satisfaction of the audience. As Dr Nuna Goel said during her speech "We do good things for our friends, relatives and known people. Helping unknown people is the greatest prayer," - perfectly suits UMK.

Great Job UMK. You people always rock not only for your entertainment part but for noble cause that you pick every time. There are plenty of organizations but hardly you can see someone picking a noble cause. Your team has always done that. Its easy to comment but do take those comments positively and use them in your next event. You people being in your busy schedule, have arranged such a great event and that is noteworthy. UMK always rock and will rock in the future. Always be smiling and make others smile.

Nice to see these much comments on UMK. UMKs popularity going high. Negative comments because of lot of expectations from the audiences. The quality of the program was low. Poor script and poor acting made people to comment in negative. But the cause is excellent and it is achieved. I think UMK is going to beat "Korodacho Kurov" very soon. UMK all the best. Positive critics always helpful. You can do better next time.

Some People find it easy to pass comments sitting in front of laptop and PC. Many people here in kuwait have good salaries, sufficint time to serve society, but they don't do except a few. UMK being family of working class members not in big positions did marvelous job. Moreover chance of taking risk in providing the stage for new faces really appreciable. Even i saw AIS auditorium was packed till last moment of programme which shows UMK entertained the audience and Audience support to UMK. Their cause is really worthy. ]

Regarding the Drama, drama was a mixure of sentiments and jokes , which UMK with new faces did wonderfully. Let negative commentators think how much they contributed to society. It is easy to purchase a ticket of KD 1 and comment . But actually when we involve into it. wew will unnderstand the pain.

    Dear Crystal,
Very well said. On a public platform one is tend to give their opinions and suggestions.
But there is a proper way to give suggestions. Instead of saying " Not good " you can say
" You were good but if you did some little change then you can do more better than this “
Taking individual names and commenting negative on them is not a proper way to support anyone.
Even you can call Agnel 66181453 give your suggestions to do next year program better than this year.
It’s a better way to support artists and even you can mention individual names that time.
Everyone knows each year UMK was better than before.
If we do something good for anyone really we feel something nice.... At least we must try one time.....

Dear all who commented on the drama, kindly note the following on the acting issue.I am observing the activities of UMK since last three years. Eventhough I am not a part of UMK, I am a big fan of them knowing their dedication towards the charity. UMK is not an association and does not having support of any big sponsors, business establishments or companies. They are only a group of like minded friends came together for a good cause.

As I know all of them are from working class and no one is in high managerial positions or business man. They have gone door to door collecting every single dinar after their working hours. Saving of 11.1Lac after the expences is not a easily acievable target to any Mangalorean associations in Kuwait even though they have 1000 members. No one in Kuwait knew there is a professional director called Ronald UMK introduced him in 2009. I have seen most of the dramas in Kuwait.

Except the ones played by professional IMPORTED teams like 'cha parka', Lukumi or Kodialbail, no dramas are as professional as UMK dramas. If you have seen all the three years drams, 70% of the artists are new and not repeated. They have intoduced new tallents in their every programs. They never brought popular or professional singers or dance groups to stage even they were willing to do thinking of bringing new talents to the public. Working in companies, collecting donation from common man, practicing and giving a quality program with new talents is more than a magic.

As this show was for the noble cause, my wife and myself have attended this program organized by UMK and being one of the Goan's Stage Artistes, I would highly commend that this show was superb and greatly commendable. The music was thrilling and scintillating, and the actions of all the actors and actresses were laudable and creditable. At the sight of any writer in this column, some of the characters were not to that professional standard, they were not at all accountable under the whole coverage of the programme. I wish all the best to UMK and we anxiously await to witness such programme in future.

Dear Antony & friendso., there is no reason to get personal. On a public platform one is tend to give their opinions and suggestions. If you are ready to accept appreciation then learn to take up criticism with grace. I too had been for the programme and noticed flaws in dancing, singing, drama etc. Suggestion was to improve the quality not to stop acting. Please grow up!

Dear friends kindly dont comment anything as you like , no one is in this world coming as a born actor, all are learning by doing mistakes . So here also same thing in this drama there were more than 10 actors and you cant acpect from all as same like Amithab bachan. Even Amithab Bachan also not well proformed in his first movie 'BOMBAY TO GOA' but public made him as a Super star by suporting him. Iam also a stage actor and i my self know its how much difficult to one good stage proformence to delivery the dailougs and taking the right place on the stage the movements and using the microphones (MIKE) on the stage its not easy my dear frineds. So before commmenting all this kindly you just think yourself what is your contibutions to the socaity and to our mother toung KONKANI.

Very well organised program. Superb drama. All Characters did well. Specially Rajesh, Agnel, Victor, Benna. Before comment anything we must think cause of the program. Donating 11.10lac rupees not a small thing. Just think how hard they worked for it. Many new faces we saw in drama and dance. No one take risk with new faces. But UMK do. Its our duty to support and encourage new faces......

Was very nice program and Very well organized. But some suggestions for future, dialogues should be clear (Clarity in pronunciation), if dialogues missing no probs. but don’t show it. And act should be lively (somewhere missing) I do not want to take the names. I can understand all of you have sacrificed your time for this, thank you one and all. Don’t feel bad, it’s just a suggestion.
    Nice suggestion from Roshan.

It is nice to see that UMK is growing day by day which they showed in yesterday's programme. I think if UMK can bring some more quality into their singing and dancing which will uplift the standard of the programme. Drama was nicely enacted except few characters which did not suit. I was surprised to see that such a hilarious role of "VALLY" was somehow did make much impact in terms of dialogues. I think pronouciation does make lot of difference alothough he acted well. I felt "DIMPLE" should have been little more bold and lively. All the best in the future.
