Kasargod, Apr 17: A section of the National Highway is set to be closed for ten and a half hours, affecting travel from Wednesday night until Thursday morning in Kasaragod. The closure is part of the ongoing construction of a flyover in Kasaragod city, a crucial component of the National Highway development initiative.
The closure, scheduled from 9 pm on Wednesday to 7:30 am on Thursday, will cover a 150-meter stretch between Nullipady Ayyappa Bhajana Mandiram and Kasaragod New Bus Stand.
Adding complexity to the situation is a legal dispute concerning compensation for the demolition of Mundol Arcade, a building near the new bus stand. This dispute has limited space availability for installing necessary machinery. Consequently, the machinery required for concreting will be positioned on the service road on both sides of the national highway, necessitating the closure, as stated by officials from the Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society (ULCCS), the construction contractor overseeing the project.
To alleviate traffic disruptions, diversions will be in place. Vehicles arriving from the Mangaluru side will be redirected from New Bus Stand Junction via M G Road, using the Kanhangad-Kasargod State highway. Police authorities have also arranged diversions for vehicles coming from the Cherkala side, guiding them through Vidyanagar Chowki Uliyathadukka road and Madhur Road.
