Bangalore: State Geared to Meet Drought, says Gowda

New Delhi/Bangalore, Oct 8 (IANS): Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, whose administration has declared nearly half of Karnataka drought-hit, acknowledged Saturday that providing relief was the primary responsibility of the state government.

"Providing relief to the drought-hit is the primary responsibility of the state government though we will seek central government's help," he told reporters here on arrival to attend a function of his Bharatiya Janata Party.

Gowda said funds would not be a problem in taking up relief operations.

The state government had declared 84 of the state's 176 taluks (revenue sub-divisions) as drought-hit.

On Oct 4, it declared 70 taluks as hit by lack of rains creating drought situation. On Friday it added 14 more taluks.

Gowda said Rs.40 crore has been already released and over Rs.120 crore was with the district administrations to take up immediate work of providing drinking water, fodder for cattle and other livestock and food grain supply.

    What is the use spending lakhs of Tax paid money for these area? Did you care to see that Trees are growing,Planting more greenery? DO you want big fat roads?Cutting down the forest, by bribing forest officials?Do you want development? why didn't we take care of nature?How do you think these effects can be revered ? No NO NO..its too late. The NATURE FIGHTS BACK.

    Result lots of money and more droughts, deaths and sickness, There will be war just for food and water in few moths.Just watch out.Don't you wish the nature and the eco- balance should have been primary requirement for healthy living.Sad ending of us.How long can we go on like this?Year after year Govt promises solution. Yet None,Adding to this comes more severe droughts and doom! Trust me Only pants and trees will sustain us and solve the water problems !
