Udupi: Three tourists from Belur get into sea in Malpe Beach; two rescued, 1 dies

Udupi, April 18: Three tourists who got down to the water for a bath in Malpe sea got washed away under the influence of a strong current of waves. While two of them were rescued, one of them died on the way to the hospital.

The tragic incident happened at Malpe Beach on Thursday, April 18. The deceased is identified as Girish, a resident of Belur, Hassan district. Santhosh and another tourist were rescued and are undergoing treatment at Manipal Hospital.

A group of 20 people had arrived on an excursion to Malpe Beach from Belur. Three of them got washed away in the strong waves while bathing in the sea. Eshwar Malpe, a diving expert and his team rushed to the spot, rescued them and brought them to the shore.

Girish among them whose condition was critical died on the way to the hospital. Two others who were rescued are being treated in the hospital.

    Malpe beach is a deep ocean beach and though there are sufficient sign boards not to venture in the sea, visitors risk their to the core, specially those who come to visit the beach, who have never seen one. In the event, with their own hands they venture into danger and avoid the caution notices made very clear. The current and wave height is very dangerous at Malpe beach. Moral: Never challenge mother nature, and never risk to play with water Hope the other 2 are recovering well.
