Bengaluru, Apr 26: BJP's Bengaluru South candidate and MP Tejasvi Surya is facing legal action for allegedly soliciting votes based on religious sentiments.
The Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer, in a statement shared on the microblogging platform X, revealed that Surya had uploaded a video on social media, seeking votes on religious grounds.
The complaint has been registered with the Jayanagar police station in Bengaluru.
Following his voting, Surya addressed reporters, suggesting that the Congress party might secure fewer than 30 seats in the Lok Sabha elections.
"The Congress party has reached a point of absolute frustration. Multiple surveys indicate that they may not secure more than 30 seats. The more they resort to personal attacks and unfounded allegations against the PM (Narendra Modi), history shows that the Prime Minister becomes stronger, and the BJP gains more popularity," Surya stated to news agency ANI.
In the Bengaluru South constituency, the Congress has nominated Sowmya Reddy as its candidate.
Surya noted the increased participation of senior citizens in this year's elections and urged the youth to turn out in large numbers to vote.
"Today is a day of celebration in Karnataka. It is a festival of democracy. Millions of people will exercise their voting rights... This is not merely a right but also a responsibility because by voting, we express our voice and contribute meaningfully to democracy," he remarked to ANI.
Karnataka is voting for 14 seats in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections today. This phase encompasses 88 Lok Sabha constituencies spread across 13 states and Union Territories.
As per the Election Commission, over 15.88 crore individuals cast their votes in the second phase.
