Mangaluru, May 7: "In response to the rising temperatures in Dakshina Kannada district, as a precautionary measure, one bed in all primary healthcare centers, two beds in all taluk and community hospitals, and six beds in Wenlock Hospital are being made ready for the treatment of patients who fall ill due to extreme heat," said district health and family welfare officer, Dr Timmaiah.
Dr Timmaiah further stated, "This year, summer in Dakshina Kannada is particularly harsh. In some areas, the temperature is five degrees Celsius higher than usual. This can lead to sickness due to changes in body temperature. The public must take care of their health until the onset of the monsoon."
"There is a possibility of skin allergies, fatigue, weakness, fainting, swelling in the legs, skin boils, muscle cramps, dizziness, and vomiting due to the extreme temperatures prevailing in the district.
"So far, no cases of heat stroke have been reported in the district. However, some individuals have sought treatment for sweat boils, swelling in their hands, and fatigue at primary healthcare centers. The public should avoid going out in the sun between 11:30 am and 3 pm. It is advisable to carry an umbrella, wear sunglasses, and loose cotton clothing. Buttermilk, water, and tender coconut are beneficial for health,” he said.
Dr Naveenchandra Kulal, district vector borne disease control officer, warned, "Many people are storing water due to anticipated scarcity during the summer. This may lead to mosquito breeding. The public should be cautious about this."
