Bengaluru, May 7: The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which has been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting investigation into the alleged sex abuses of women by Hassan JDS MP Prajwal Revanna, will conduct its probe in an independent and impartial manner with not even the slightest interference by the State Government, assured Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday.

The Chief Minister, has in a statement issued to the media, denied the allegation of BJP leader Devaraje Gowda against the SIT functioning as the ‘remote control’ of the ruling Congress party as ‘totally false and far from truth’.

“The SIT involves the most efficient, honest and impartial officers. It is functioning with full autonomy with complete freedom, independence and in an impartial manner,” Siddaramaiah said dismissing BJP leader Devaraje Gowda’s allegation that SIT is being used as a tool to save the culprits is nothing but ‘an attempt to mislead and discredit the SIT probe’.

“The Congress government is committed to punishing the guilty irrespective of their stature and political influence,” he said asserting that the government will not interfere in the investigation.

The Chief Minister rubbished the BJP leaders claiming that the Prajwal sex scandal is ‘tarnishing’ the image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said there is no point in blaming the government as it is the BJP which entered into an alliance with JDS.

“They (BJP leaders) should have weighed the circumstances and the ground reality before embracing JDS,” he said.

The Chief Minister, however, said: “It is the Modi government which should extend help and support in ensuring that Prajwal Revanna is brought back to India as he had travelled abroad using diplomatic passport. The State Government has no role to play in bringing back the diplomatic passport holders if the Centre does not extend its full cooperation.”

Siddaramaiah asked the BJP leaders to clarify their stand on continuing the alliance with JDS in view of the Prajwal Revanna sex scandal in which several women were sexually abused and the acts were video recorded and subsequently circulated in pen drives.
