Mangaluru: Three-day national-level badminton tourney 'Mangala Cup 2024' inaugurated

Mangaluru, May 10: The three-day national-level open badminton tournament, 'Mangala Cup 2024', was inaugurated at the US Mallya Indoor Stadium on Friday, May 10. The event is being organized by the Mangala Badminton Association.

The chief guests for the inaugural function were joint director of youth empowerment and sports Pradeep D’Souza, motorsport champion Ashwin Naik, and senior referees Suresh and Beena Suresh.

The tournament will feature men's and women's singles and doubles, mixed doubles, as well as men's doubles for ages 30, 40, and 50 years and above, along with women's singles for ages 30 years and above. The total cash prize amounts to Rs 5.83 lac.

Participants from Karnataka, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and other states will compete in the Mangala Cup.

Prior to the inaugural function, a procession was carried out from Mangaluru City Corporation to the US Mallya Indoor Stadium by members of the Mangala Badminton Association, which was flagged off by Ashwin Naik.

The president of the Mangala Badminton Association, Supreeth Alva, welcomed the gathering.

The organizing committee president of the Mangala Cup, Terence Ajay, along with the Mangala Badminton Association secretary, Deepak Kumar, treasurer Laxmi P Suvarna, development convenor Santhosh Kumar Shetty, and organizing secretary C S Bhandary, were also present.
