Kundapur, May 20: A tragic incident occurred in Melpankti of Shiruru village on Monday, May 20, where a 16-year-old boy took his own life after being denied a transfer certificate by his school.
The deceased, Nitin Achari, was a student of Byndoor Government High School and had recently passed the SSLC examination. According to his family, Nitin was scolded by a teacher when he went to the college to request his transfer certificate, which led to his extreme decision. A death note found at the scene provided insight into his distress:
"Mom, Dad, I kept a lot of things from you fearing you would admonish me. When I went to school and requested a TC, I was accused by my teacher of breaking the CCTV and removing the toilet gate and burying them. The teacher said the TC would only be issued if I brought you (parents) to the school and paid the fine. I did not want to trouble you, so I did not confide in you. I was humiliated in school and couldn't bear it. Though I denied the allegations, the teacher did not agree and continued to blame me. I pleaded with the teacher to issue me the TC so that I could secure admission in the college. But the teacher insisted I bring you (parents) to the college and get the broken camera and toilet gate repaired. I did not know whom else to approach in this situation."
When contacted, Suresh Bhat, the headmaster of the high school, stated that the college principal had issued an official directive for four students to contact him personally before collecting their transfer certificates. Following this directive, Bhat sent the students to the principal.
A case has been registered at Byndoor police station regarding Nitin's suicide.
