Karnataka on high alert amid Operation Sindoor; CM, HM assure State preparedness

Mandya/ Bengaluru, May 8: In response to escalating national security concerns following Operation Sindoor, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that the state has issued comprehensive alerts across all districts, including at critical infrastructure sites such as reservoirs.

Speaking to the media in Mandya, he stated, “We have sounded an alert at all places across the state, including reservoirs, as a precautionary measure. Anything can happen, so steps have been taken accordingly.”

Addressing queries about the government's directive for special prayers in temples, CM Siddaramaiah clarified thathe order was issued after consultations with Transport and Muzrai Minister Ramalinga Reddy. He also confirmed that all Pakistani nationals residing in the state have been deported, except those who have legally challenged the action.

“Those staying in Mysuru have approached the court. Except for them, all Pakistani nationals have been sent back. I don’t have the exact number who were deported from Karnataka,” he added.

Regarding emergency preparedness, CM Siddaramaiah confirmed that mock drills are being conducted across the state in line with central government directives. These exercises aim to assess and enhance the state's readiness to respond to potential threats.

In Bengaluru, home minister G Parameshwara reassured the public about the state's security capabilities. “We have adequate security personnel. The existing force remains unchanged, and recruitment for additional personnel is ongoing,” he stated. He also confirmed that mock drills are being held in three centrally identified districts, with Mysuru additionally included based on intelligence inputs. “All district Superintendents of Police have been alerted about the seriousness of the situation,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka State Fire and Emergency Services Department conducted a large-scale emergency preparedness drill titled 'Operation Abhyas' in Halasuru on Wednesday.

The drill simulated real-time rescue operations, including fire control, civilian evacuation, and first-aid demonstrations, utilising aerial ladder vehicles and high-alert protocols. The exercise aimed to boost public awareness on how to respond during emergency situations, especially in urban environments.

As tensions remain high following the Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent retaliatory Operation Sindoor, the state government has reiterated its commitment to public safety, coordination with central agencies, and proactive crisis response measures.
