Lucknow, Oct 23: The Samajwadi Party (SP) scion Akhilesh Yadav lashed out at the land acquisition policy of state government during his cycle rally at Tappal  in Gautam Budha Nagar on Saturday. Tappal was the nerve centre for the recent farmer's unrest over land acquisition. Several of them had died during the violent protest.

"Farmers are committing suicide due to penury while builders are construction their palatial resort on the farmer's land. The policies of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) are more friendly towards corporate houses," said Akhilesh. The SP leader is on a cycle yatra as part of his ongoing campaign.

"Farmers have been provided relaxation by the High Court while the state government had no intention of providing them relief. Farmers are not getting their due for the agriculture while their lands are being snatched and handed over to builders," he said.

Akhilesh also lashed out at the memorials and parks constructed by the BSP supremo Mayawati terming them as unproductive. "They are just being constructed to fulfill the whims and fancies of Chief Minister (CM) Mayawati and funds are being siphoned away for these statues," he retorted.

The SP also decried the state government for obstructing the cycle yatra of Akhilesh Yadav. On Friday, Akhilesh was denied permission to continue his yatra on the national highway and was asked to used the slip-road. SP workers were agitated over the obstruction but later relented. "The BSP government is apprehensive over the support which Akhilesh's cycle yatra is getting from all quarters. It is a cheap
political gimmick which should be condemned," said state spokesperson, Rajendra Choudhary. Akhilesh will be winding up his yatra on Sunday after covering Mathura, Hathras and Agra.
