Mangaluru, Jun 26: In a heart-wrenching incident that occurred in the early hours on Wednesday June 26, a compound wall collapsed onto a house, leading to the death of a family of four in Madaninagar, Munnur village, Ullal taluk.

The victims, identified as Yasir Katipalla (45), his wife Mariyamma Kandak (40), and their daughters Rashina (19) and Rifaana (16), were residing in the Rihana Manzil house. The compound wall, belonging to a house owned by Aboobacker, collapsed, causing this tragedy.

Yasir worked at Bunder. The family had gone to bed after dinner, and the parents and daughters were found dead in the early morning hours. Due to overnight rains, the compound wall and two arecanut trees fell onto Yasir's house. Rihana and Rifaan were attending a private school and college in the city. Six years ago, they had purchased the house, rented it out for a year, and had returned to live in it just six months ago. A similar incident of a wall collapse occurred two years ago, but fortunately, no one was harmed at that time.

After a three-hour rescue operation, the bodies of the four family members were recovered. Local residents managed to retrieve three of the bodies from the debris, while the fire department, along with the locals, worked for two hours to recover the last body.

Their elder daughter, Rasheena, was married off to Kerala and had returned home for Bakrid celebrations. She went back to her husband's house on Tuesday.

The deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, Mullai Muhilan, visited the scene with officials and assured the affected that relief measures would be expedited.
