Another Fuel Price Hike on the Cards?

Another Fuel Price Hike on the Cards?

Daijiworld Media Network

New Delhi, Nov 1: If state-owned companies have their way, the country will be in for yet another hike in petrol prices soon.

Forced to make good the losses on petrol, the companies are pushing for a hike of Rs 1.82 per litre.

The price of petrol was last hiked in September, by Rs 5 per litre, by public sector oil firms.

The call for a price hike comes in the wake of rupee depreciation and hardening of crude oil prices. The oil refining and marketing firm posted a quarterly loss of Rs 33.6 billion on Tuesday November 1.

"From today, there are some losses on petrol. To cover them, we may have to increase prices," HPCL director (finance) B Mukherjee told reporters.

He further said that the price of crude oil is at around USD 108 per barrel in international markets, and that the rupee has depreciated from Rs 46.50 a dollar three months ago to over Rs 49 per dollar now, thus increasing the cost of oil imports.

He said that currently, companies are suffering a loss of Rs 1.50 per litre on petrol, excluding local taxes. To make good the loss, a hike of Rs 1.82 per litre is needed.

"We are in discussion with other oil companies on raising prices," he said.

However, he did not mention when the hike was likely to be implemented, however, sources said it may happen in a fortnight or so.

If the Oil Companies are loosing money, then what basis they pay dividend to the Government every year? In Bangladesh, even after the hike of price of petrol recently by that govt., it is around Rs. 48/- per litre and they had short recovery of only around Rs. 3/- per litre and the price of petrol is still less in Pakisthan compared to Bangladesh. If the above countries can manage, then the present UPA Govt. which can not manage economy, then it is unfit to rule the Nation. Let our Finance Minister and Petroleum Minister vacate their posts, and make way for more efficient persons to manage the concerned Ministries. Is our Honourable and Clean Prime Minister Mr. Manmohan Singh listening?

80% of our oil requirement is depended on Imports from Oil producing countries. We need to explore our own oil and any other alternatives if possible. Stop spending billions of dollars on Moon & Mars exploration and spend that money to find/explore/invent possibilities to keep moving our auto-motives.

Well everyone has to understand that crude oil in intl market is the culprit. I wud like to mention ENOC fuel stations in Sharjah (UAE) can stop serving to avoid losses in a oil producing country like UAE then what you can expect from 80% importer of crude oil country like India. Only alternative fuel or less consumption of fuel the remedy for time being.

Hats off to the UPA govt. I don't know how the majority of the public supported the idea of de regulating the oil prices... The act done by this govt has forced us to witness this situation. I request the supporters of the UPA to go through the break up of the petrol prices. At the present level the price of refined petrol will not exceed rs 40... This govt knows only to tax the common man in every way it wants and eat the same by the way of scams. Sonia and rahul a.k.a. Raul Vinci please get lost to Italy.
