Mangaluru journalists honoured for humanitarian efforts in Shiroor hill collapse tragedy

Mangaluru, Jul 25: The deputy commissioner (DC) of Dakshina Kannada, Mullai Muhilan, invited journalists who provided humanitarian assistance during the final rites of an elderly woman who died in the Shiroor hill collapse tragedy to his office and felicitated them.

The mortal remains of Sanni Hanumantha Gowda, a resident of Uluvare village, were found under the rubble after eight days on Tuesday. After the post-mortem, the body was taken to her residence. Journalists Shashi Bellayaru, Mohan Kuthar, Arif U R, Girish Malali, and Shivashankar helped transport the remains and assisted with the final rites, which was reported in the media.

DC Mullai Muhilan, who noticed these reports, gathered information about the journalists from Srinivas Nayak Indaje, president of the Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Association. He then invited the journalists to his office and felicitated them. Srinivas Nayak Indaje introduced the journalists to the DC.

Speaking after the felicitation, DC Muhilan said, “Your work is commendable. This is a deed that has made Dakshina Kannada district proud. In the future, continue to involve yourself in such social work. If you require any help, the district administration is with you. Society needs young men like you.”

The DC also gathered information from the journalists about the current situation in Shiroor and Uluvare village. Khader Shah, senior assistant director of the Dakshina Kannada news and public relations department, Vasant N Konaje, president of the Working Journalists’ Association Ullal, and Ganesh Talapady were present.
