Karkala: St John Bosco Church Receives Diocesan Cross

Karkala, Nov 8: The post centenary silver jubilee cross of Mangalore diocese reached St Joseph’s Church, Belman in the taluk, on November 4 evening.

The cross was received by parish priest, Fr Lawrence D’Souza, assistant parish priest, Fr Ronald Pinto, and Bondel assistant parish priest, Fr Vincent Lobo, in the presence of a large crowd of the faithful.



The priests and the people observed fast and prayer the next day. Prayers were offered by the people belonging to different wards from 9 am to 4 pm. On November 6, the people gathered for the adoration of the cross after the mass. The adoration of the cross, held from 2.30 to 3 pm, was followed by the procession of the cross to St John Bosco Church, Kelmbet, Bola. The procession, after reaching Belman government school, proceeded to Kelmbet church in various vehicles. Parish priest, Fr Lawrence D’Souza, assistant parish priest, Fr Ronald Pinto, and Fr Archi Corea, participated in the procession.

Fr Lawerence D’Souza handed over the jubilee cross to the parish priest of Kelmbet church, Fr Peter Pinto. The parish priest and the faithful honoured the cross and accepted it with reverence.

Vice president of parish council, Gregory Menezes, and secretary of the church, Lidia Aranha, were present in the procession. About 400 parishioners participated in the procession.
