Bantwal: Youth Drowns in Netravati River

Bantwal, Nov 9: Irfan (22), son of Hasanabba from Pallamajalu Kallagudde, drowned in Netravati River near Tumbe in the taluk on Tuesday November 8. The youth, working for a private concern in Bangalore, was on a visit to his native place to celebrate Bakrid. He is survived by parents and two younger sisters.

On Tuesday, he had visited the river along with two of his friends to take bath. While taking bath, his legs got stuck in the silt, and he could not wriggle himself out, even after putting in lot of efforts. The fire brigade personnel in the town were summoned, but they too could not plunge into action immediately for want of proper equipments.

Local divers thereafter came to the spot and undertook search operation. After a prolonged operation, they could retrieve Irfan’s body.

MLAs, Ramanath Rai and U T Khader, visited the family and offered condolences. A case of unnatural death was registered in the rural police station here. Investigation is progressing.
