Mangalore, Nov 9: "Its not mere violence but terrorism’ expressed Justice Michael Saldhana when asked about the constant attack on churches, at a press meet here on Tuesday November 7.
Justice Saldanha claimed that its not just economic progress that is important in the state but communal harmony. He grieved for not taking any action by the Government, the root of the problem must be traced and instigator should be brought to the court, he said. He advised to stop enmity between religions and live in social freedom.
He lamented for the cases filed against the poor people, who have no money to afford a lawyer and students, whose career has been affected. He mentioned the partiality in the judicial treatment bringing up the recent issues of politicians. Rich and the powerful are admitted to the hospitals to refrain from going to jail. They demand AC, TV, special food, toilet and the 5 star facilities, Justice Saldhana commented.
P B D’Sa, the district president of People’s Union of Civil Liberties (PUCL) was also present.
D’Sa speaking to the press persons announced that the church-attacks-report will be published in kannada version on November 27 in Mysore, followed by Mangalore and Udupi. He condemned for the differences in facility given to the rich and poor by the judiciary. Bail is granted to the people who have looted the country, and some are put in jails just for pelting stones, he added.
Justice Saldanha requested media to play an important role in bringing back harmony and peace in the state.
