Sullia, Nov 9: The policemen have succeeded in arresting an accused relating to an incident of rape  that occurred on November 7, even as the accused in mass rape case on October 15 remain untraced.

Kutyady Krishnappa Moolya (30), an auto rickshaw driver by profession, was arrested in this connection. Allegedly, he abducted a local girl aged 21, kept her under house arrest at his brother’s home, and tried to rape her. When the girl shouted in protest, neighbors came to the spot, upon which Moolya ran away. On a complaint filed by the girl, the policemen arrested the man. He has been remanded to 15 days judicial custody. Moolya also faces charge of rape in a previous case, it is gathered.

Relating to the mass rape in Kalai in Koltige village on October 15, district additional superintendent of police, Prabhakar, visited the spot and guided investigation. It is said that a person named Lokesh approached a girl who was waiting at the bus stand in Aivarnad Marvatadka on her return journey after visiting her grandfather, and told her that he was bound for Bellare. She believed him and got into the auto. A little later, two others, named Punit and Kusumadhar, boarded the same auto rickshaw. They reportedly gagged the girl, blindfolded her, and took her to a house located in the midst of a rubber plantation where she was gang-raped. They then brought her back to Bellare and dropped her there. The girl explained the development to her family, and her mother filed a police complaint.

Additional SP met the victim and got the details personally. He also subjected her to medical examination.

Shame on you guys. We speak a lot about our culture, respect to women in Sullia, we have associations etc. But what finally u guys doing? Gang rape? do with ur family members. Let not our leaders and local criminals support these guys if they have respect to their profession. I strongly condemn the way auto driver has behaved. Auto Union has to take a strong action on this. Please people, we say we are most talented and educated guys (South Canara), but..?
