Udupi, Nov 12: Former opposition leader in the state legislative council and Congress leader, Motamma, predicted that the candidate fielded by Congress will come out victorious in the by-poll being held for Bellary Rural constituency at the fag end of this month. She was reacting to questions raised by press persons during her visit to the town on Friday November 11.
“BJP will get divided into three splinter groups within a few days. This will pave way for the victory of Congress candidate. The assembly election of the state may occur before the by-poll for Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha seat is held,” she felt. To a question about tremendous popularity Sriramulu enjoys in Bellary, she said everyone knows how he gathers people together and that putting together a show of mammoth gathering is not a daunting task.
“If Sriramulu had resigned from the seat for his self-respect, why is he contesting again?” she questioned and accused Sriramulu of wasting public money by imposing elections on the people. She felt that if Sriramulu had genuine self-respect, he should have waited till the next general elections to fight it. “I have seen the turnaround of the people from Bellary in favour of the Congress, during the Padayatra from Bangalore,” she explained.
She accused D V Sadananda Gowda of being a puppet Chief Minister, adding that she got information that he was seated in the second row in a meeting held on Thursday at Bangalore, instead of occupying the chair earmarked for him in the first row. She also said that the legislators of her party are being consulted before the next assembly session scheduled to begin on December 6, about the desirably of moving no-confidence motion.
Saying that BJP had gone to coma several times during the last three years, and that it survived with the support of ventilator, she exuded confidence that BJP will crumble this time.
She later held discussions with members of the district Women’s Congress Committee at the travellers bungalow. District Women’s Congress Committee president, Veronica Carnelio, Jayashree Krishnaraj, Anandi, and several zilla and panchayat members and others were present.
