Mangalore: MCC, Udupi Municipality Adjudged Best in Solid Waste Management

Mangalore, Nov 12: At the international conference on solid waste management organized at Jadavpur University campus, Kolkata, both Mangalore City Corporation and Udupi Municipality bagged top awards. The conference was held from November 9 to 11. Mangalore City Corporation has shared the first prize with Mysore City Corporation.

Awards were given in the categories of city corporations, municipalities having population of one to three lac, municipalities with less than one lac population, and town municipalities. The awards were decided on the basis of points scored by each of the contesting local administration, for the functioning style in garbage disposal.

Apart from Mangalore and Udupi, Kundapur and Puttur town municipalities also bagged the awards. The awards were handed over by union minister for urban development, Saugata Roy, at the valedictory function held on November 11. Vice-chancellor of Jadavpur University, Dr P N Ghosh, convener of the conference, Dr S N Ghosh, and others were present.

Out of 172 essays presented on solid waste disposal at the conference, 17 were chosen for awards. Out of them, two are from Karnataka. They went to Subrahmanya, environment engineer of Udupi municipality, and an environmental engineer from Mysore city.

City mayor, Pravin, deputy mayor, Geeta Nayak, chairman of health standing committee, Navinchandra, health officer, Dr Manjaiah Shetty, environmental engineers, Madhu S Manohar and Manohar Shetty, received the award.

On behalf of Udupi municipality, which has been adjudged the best among the municipalities with a population of between one to three lacs, municipal president, Kiran Kumar, municipal commissioner, Gokuldas Nayak, and environmental engineer, Subrahmanya, received the award.

    Hi, I am Joseph, I have good experience in MSW Recycling plant for 10 yrs. and have complete knowledge of its process, i have been plant manager. I have designed a new technology which will ensure zero waste after segregation with ADS system. This reduces the use of landfill and increase income, its fully automated plant and requires very less labor and thus increase income. There is need less Landfill area in this project. So, i will do as you require if you need any consultancy or install this zero waste system. i can sure you will see a rise in income.
    Refuse-derived fuel (RDF) or solid recovered fuel/ specified recovered fuel (SRF) is a fuel produced by shredding and dehydrating solid waste (MSW) with a Waste converter technology. RDF consists largely of combustible components of municipal waste such as plastics and biodegradable waste. RDF processing facilities are normally located near a source of MSW. SRF can be distinguished from RDF in the fact that it is produced. A comprehensive review is now available on SRF / RDF production, quality standards and thermal recovery.

    Congratulations to Mangalore City Corporation and Udupi Municipality for bagging the best awards in Solid Waste Management. Also a big encore to Mysore City Corporation, Kundapur and Puttur for sharing the honors. Well done and keep up the good job and win more honors.
