Puttur: Haphazard Road Works – Police Complaint against Officials, Contractor

Daijiworld Media Network – Puttur (SP)

Puttur, Nov 15: The assistant commissioner here, under instructions from MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, filed a complaint in the town police station here against Manjunath Hassan and Shivakumar Mysore, officials of Karnataka Road Development Corporation Ltd, and Riaz Ahmed, project officer of Krishnamohan Constructions, which has been executing the reconstruction work of Mani-Sampaje state highway, for showing utter neglect towards execution of the work, and creating problems for the general public.

Numerous complaints have been pouring in from all around, about the wretched state of this highway, and painfully slowl pace of work. The entire 74 km stretch of this road looks like a battleground because of the haphazard work and indiscriminate digging. The policemen have been asked to register criminal cases against the above three.

The MP was angry at the absence of KRDCL officials and contractor, whose presence was very important for a meeting he had convened in the town on Monday November 14, to sort out the issues. Although officials of forest, revenue and the local municipality, whose presence was necessary to find solutions to problems, apart from MLA, Mallika Prasad, had come to the meeting, the officials of KRDCL and contractor company showed their apathy by not showing up. As such, the meeting lost its meaning.

Nalin took umbrage at the callous attitude shown by the concerned for a meeting he, as the representative of the people, had convened. He asked assistant commissioner, Mudraje Sundar Bhat, to file complaints against the concerned and contacted police inspector, Sudarshan, over phone and asked him to register criminal complaint. By evening, the complaint was filed.

In addition to filing criminal complaint against the concerned public officials, it would be appropriate to dismiss them for derelection of duty. Let them go to court and fight for their rights.

I did travel on Mani-Puttur stretch in May 2011. The driver was able to avert a major accident beacuse of his expertise in driving

This stretch is dangerous to travel and should be closed for traffic immediately. The road can be repaired on war footing by diverting incoming and outgoing traffic to Puttur via Vittal and Uppinangady.

The time and fuel used for extra miles will offset by avoiding possible damage to vehicle and life.

The MP can enact new law such as Public Officials Responsibility Act to punish the irresponsible officials, if we do not have such provisions to punish them under current laws.
