Udupi, Nov 17: A person named Chandra (18) from Guddeangady in Yadady Matyady village accidentally drowned in the standing waters of a stone quarry near his home on Tuesday. He was the son of Kushta and Muttu from Goddeangady.

He had visited the spot with his friends, Krishna and Nishant. His family members, who were worried about the fact that he did not return at night, thought that he would have stayed with his friends overnight. When he did not return the next morning, they enquired with his friends. The friends claimed that they had come back home after bath, and that they saw Chandra returning home through the thicket. During search operations later, Chandra’s body was found in the standing water of the stone quarry. Chandra did not know swimming, the family members said.

It now transpires that the friends of Chandra had been overtaken by shock and dismay at the sudden drowning of Chandra. Developing cold feet at this unexpected tragedy, they rushed to their homes and chose to keep mum about the incident.

Chandra, second of the three sons of his parents, had started working as a labourer, after studying up to sixth standard.
