Doha: Mangalore Cricket Club holds 31st annual general meeting

Doha, Sep 6: Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC) Doha, Qatar conducted its 31st annual general meeting on Friday, August 30 at the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) Bengaluru Hall.

Anet Noronha, emcee of the programme, opened the evening with an introduction and welcomed the gathering. Meena Mascarenhas, cultural secretary, invoked God’s blessings on the programme and all members with an opening prayer. The executive committee of 2023-24 led by president Naveen D’Souza were invited to the dais.

Renzil D’Souza, general secretary was invited to present the annual report of the club to the members for the term 2023-24. The detailed general report on the club’s activities was read out. The treasurer, Anup D’Souza presented the financial report which was appreciated by all as the club is in good standing.

A small question answer session time was allotted for members to ask any queries or make any suggestions. Advisor Vivian D’Souza proposed the approval of the report and advisor Riana Pinto seconded the proposal.

President Naveen D’Souza then addressed the gathering. In his address, he appreciated the advisors, executive committee, members and sponsors for all the support extended in staging many successful programmes in the past year. He mentioned that Monthi Fest 2023 broke records by bringing together more than 250 people from various varados on one platform. He also highlighted the mega event of MCC Sambhram 2023 and how the program is still remembered and appreciated by many. He was grateful to all members and supporters for helping in staging programs successfully.

He was happy to announce that the Club has donated Rs 13.5 lac through Mangalore Cricket Club Qatar (MCCQ) Charitable Trust since the launch of MCCQ in 2018 supporting education sponsorships to the deserving students of Mangalore and Udupi diocese. He further added that as part of MCC ongoing efforts to expand and strengthen their charitable work, dedicated and passionate members are invited to join the board of trustees and make a change for the children.

He appreciated the efforts of membership secretary Preema Frank for strengthening the club adding 24 new members in the past year increasing the members total to 594. He requested members to introduce new members to the club so many fellow Mangalureans could enjoy the benefits, give them a platform to showcase their talents and enrich Mangalurean culture building strong MCC family. He announced the forthcoming activities of the club namely picnic, Christmas Party for children, Mangalorean Day etc and would confirm dates. Members put forward their suggestions and was well accepted by the president.

The official programme was then followed by some interesting spot games and Housie Housie by Bertrand Rolin Monterio, joint sports secretary.

Emcee Anet proposed a vote of thanks and concluded the meeting. The annual general meeting ended on a joyful note with the members’ group photograph and some delicious snacks.

The MCC executive committee thanked all members who attended the 31st annual general meeting and for their participation and extended their invitation for the forthcoming Monthi Fest celebration on September 13 at DPS Monarch School at 5:30 pm.
