New Delhi, Nov 19: Stepping up its investigation into the 2G spectrum scam, the CBI on Saturday November 19 registered a case in connection with the allocation of additional spectrum to private telecom firms during the NDA rule.

The agency is probing the allocations during the stint of the late Pramod Mahajan who was the telecom minister during 2001-2003.

"The agency has registered a case in the allocation of additional spectrum today during the NDA's rule," said a CBI official.

CBI also raided the offices of Airtel in Gurgaon, Vodafone in Mumbai and residences of the then telecom secretary Shyamal Ghosh and former deputy director general in the telecom ministry J R Gupta.

This comes after the CBI conducted preliminary inquiry into the allocation of additional spectrum from 2001 to 2007.
