Kundapur, Oct 9: In a decisive move against illegal fireworks operations, Byndoor police recently conducted a raid on a house in Uppunda, revealing a substantial stash of firecrackers.

The accused, Dattatreya Shetty, known for selling fireworks during Deepavali and Vinayaka Chaturthi, now faces legal repercussions for his unlawful activities.

The storage facility was located near a shed, with a concrete road constructed nearby and a red stone compound built in the middle of the road some time ago. Despite objections from locals and the public, Shetty ignored the complaints.

The matter escalated to court, which granted an injunction against him. However, when Shetty attempted to rebuild the compound, locals alerted the police.

Following this, police warned him to comply with the court’s orders. Ultimately, acting on public complaints regarding his illegal firecracker storage, police conducted a search and discovered various explosives, gelatine sticks, and a substantial quantity of firecrackers.

The total value of the confiscated firecrackers is estimated to be around Rs 4 lac. A case has been registered at the Byndoor police station regarding the incident.
