Mumbai: Mother India Former Students’ Foundation holds second annual general meeting

Mumbai, Oct 23: Members of the Mother India Former Students’ Foundation have been urged to support the continued educational, social, and cultural activities of Mother India, said Surendra Poojary, while presiding over the foundation’s second Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Raut Cottage, Mud Island, Malad West, on Sunday, October 20.

Mother India, known for its educational, social, literary, and cultural contributions, established the Former Students’ Foundation in 2022, which is registered under the Maharashtra State Societies Registration Act. Surendra Poojary, who chaired the AGM, emphasized the importance of sustaining the foundation’s mission.

Harish Maindan, the general secretary, welcomed the members and read the circular. Following the agenda, Joint Secretary Ashok Suvarna presented the minutes of the first AGM, which were approved by Keshav Shettigar and seconded by Shivanand Bangera. The annual financial report was presented by assistant treasurer P B Chandrahas and was accepted after recommendations by Mandar Hegde and Naveen Amin.

Treasurer T V Poojary proposed appointing Krishna Nayak as the official auditor for the upcoming year, which was seconded by Sundar Moily and approved by Mohan Suvarna. Additionally, Prof Mandar Hegde was appointed as the internal auditor.

Manjunath Poojary, president of the fundraising committee, stressed the need for the foundation to acquire its own office and encouraged members to contribute generously. The members responded positively to the office acquisition proposal.

Harish Maindan advised that any activities conducted under the name of Madar India Night School should be done in consultation with the foundation's president or general secretary, to ensure the organization’s growth through mutual cooperation. Surendra Poojary, in his presidential address, highlighted the foundation’s rapid progress and called on members to contribute wholeheartedly to implement new initiatives for the benefit of society.

During the meeting, Harish Maindan, president of Tulu Sangha Borivali, Karunakar Kapu, a Karnataka Janapada Award recipient, and Sitaram Devadiga, recognized by Star Health, were honoured for their contributions.

The meeting was attended by Program Committee President Sadananda Shetty Kinnigoli, Mandar Hegde, Sundar Moily, Advocate Sundar J Shetty, and Jay Poojary, who shared their thoughts.

A cultural programme followed, featuring performances by Jayaram Poojary, Karunakar Poojary, Hemant Poojary, Ramesh Poojary, Akarsh Yashwant Poojary, and Srikant Poojary.

Also present on the dais were vice presidents Umesh Shetty and Yashwant Poojary, joint secretary Jayaram Poojary, and Rasayani. Ashok Suvarna delivered the vote of thanks.
