Mangalore, Dec 5: 'Art is not easy, it takes lot of time and efforts,' said Parvadhavardhini Gopalkrishnan, principal of WelcomeGroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration at Manipal University at the inaugural of ‘Glimpses’ an art exhibition by Veena Srinivas at Prasad Art Gallery on Monday December 5.

The kind of art carved in temples is rarely seen these days, he said, and lauded Veena for endeavouring to revive Kaavikale through her art exhibition.

Dr Mukund Prabhu of Mangalore University, M R Pavanje, the mentor of Veena Srinivas and others were present at the inaugural. Baikadi Janardhan compered the event and Thapasya Achar proposed the vote of thanks.

Kavi Kala (A Wall Mural art using Red Oxide Paste) was painstakingly documented by famous anthropologist and sociologist Dr. Krishnanand Kamath. He toured relentless throughout the coastal Karnataka and Goa to document this unique art form. He has collected thousands of motifs which were etched on the walls of various temples on the coast.
Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and Goa Konkani Academy has published his book "Konkanyale Kavikala". The Book has been awarded with TMA Pai Foundation Appreciation Award in Year 2000. The Designs are also being featured on www.kamat.com

Its happy to note the Kavikala being popularised by replicating the traditional motifs on Canvas. Thus the age old Kavikala motifs will regain its right full place on the drawing room walls.
