Udupi, Dec 10: ‘Birdpex – 2011’, the solo philatelic exhibition of Daniel Monteiro, held at SMS Community Building, Brahmavar, to create a Guinness World Record concluded on Thursday December 8.

Monteiro bagged three awards for his solo exhibition of bird stamps for the first time in Asia, for displaying over 5,000 big postage stamps, and for his collection of over 1,000 postage stamps of ducks.

Kudremukh range deputy conservator of forests Prakash S Netlekar was the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Netlekar said that philately has interesting and research aspects and Monteiro can serve as the resource person for environmental workshops which will be helpful for the new generation.

SMS College correspondent Fr Ramban G M Scaria said that patience and simple nature takes one to greater heights.

India Book of Records representative Ramachandra G S, after presenting the certificates to Monteiro, said that the postage collection of birds will not merely serve to create a record; it would serve as a ready reference for the new generation on various species of birds worldwide.

‘Birdpex – 2011’ began on Wednesday December 7.  Over 5,000 postal stamps from nearly 175 countries, some of them very rare and precious, were displayed at the exhibition.  This exhibition brings Monteiro closer to a Guinness World Record.
