Udupi, Dec 14: “A massive protest rally will be held in the city on Monday December 19, under the leadership of Kalattoor Jan Jagruti Samiti, opposing land acquisition for the second phase expansion of ISPRL,” said Gurme Suresh Shetty, honorary president, Kalatoor Jan Jagruti Samiti.

Addressing media persons during the meet held at Kaup, near here, on Monday December 12, he said that a massive protest rally will be held from Majoor Circle, Kaup, to the headquarters of the district administration urging chief minister D V Sadanand Gowda to shelve the project.

Over 5,000 people from project site will attend the protest rally. “ISPRL is under construction on 200 acres under Padoor gram panchayat and the locals are suffering due to environmental issues.  Despite this, the survey for land acquisition is underway by KIADB in order to set up the second phase of ISPRL, which will render homeless nearly 200 families living in the region,” said Suresh Shetty.

Samiti convener Nityanand R Shetty, Lawrence Fernandes, Payyar Shivaram Shetty, Divakar D Shetty, Kishore Kumar Gurme, Ganesh Shetty Payyar, Praveen Kumar Gurme, Gladys D’Almeida, and ZP member Arun Shetty Padoor were present at the media conference.
