Mangalore, Dec 15:
A vehicle belonging to ‘White Doves’ was seized by Pandeshwar police for an undisclosed reason here on Thursday December 15.

It is said that sub inspector Ramalingaiah along with his staff came to a place near Mangalore Railway station where the vehicle was distributing food to beggars as has been done by the organization for 15 years.

White Doves founder president Corrine Rasquinha said that inspector Ramalingaiah had behaved rudely with the Umesh, the driver of the vehicle and seized the vehicle and took it to the Pandeshwar police station without giving any reason for doing so. The seized vehicle has the registration KA19 MC 953 (Tata Ace Magic).

Sources also said that during the interrogation, police told Umesh not to engage in such work as some segments of society may eye such activity as ‘conversion’.

However, when Pandeshwar police station was contacted they said that the manner in which the vehicle was parked was obstructing vehicular movement. But White Doves members maintain that they were accused by the police of conducting conversions.

Police said that the matter has been resolved through compromise and no case has been registered in this regard.

The bible says do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.   Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.   (Matt.  10:28)
Jesus said if you are ashamed of me in this world me too will be ashamed of you on judgement day.
Those Christians who are afraid to talk n keep silent please open "www.choothomas.org" and click 'Christians that wound up in hell' and watch the video on YouTube, feel yourself burning in fire of he'll. It will help you n me to be better Christians during Christmas season. Just by taking baptism n going to sunday mass we cannot go to heaven, we need to be like corrine, good samaritan Good luck.

Much to the chagrin of my minority brethren, the police action though crude, was well intentioned. In the current climate, anything minorities do is looked upon suspiciously by political elements waiting to take advantage. The police are partly right in saying this could be construed as being a kind of incentive for conversion, thus wanting to avoid a communal situation. Imagine if Bajrang dal/Rama sena were to be there instead of the police and beat up the white doves? Wouldn’t that be absolutely demoralizing!

Regarding Corrine’s comment that the police chided her for not talking in Kannada, this is also another problem of the community, assuming she spoke in English, we need to communicate more in kannada/tulu/hindi, integrate more with the culture and customs of the country and talk the local languages as much as possible thus not being branded as ‘foreign’

White doves are doing wonderful work. With regard to distributing food and getting branded as converts, they need to do some thinking, as they can be easily branded as aiding conversions by unscrupulous elements for political gains.

Corinne Rasquinha & team congratulations on your great work. There is a section of society who can't do this and are jealous. You are the Mother Theresa of Mangalore.

Christians form 2% of India's population, Hindu's about 60%. Certainly, I know that Corinne & team would not stoop to that.So why is this nervousness / accusations about conversions ?

As per the 2001 census, Christian population in India has reduced from 2.5% to 2%.

Corinne , we have seen and recognise your great / hard work .Keep it up and you have our every support. Merry X'mas/New Year to you all.Greggy Peres

'White doves' is famous not just in Mangalore but the world over .
It's very sad to see the police taking action against a small group which is doing so much good for the community without any bias. South Kanara has always had a strong Catholic/Christian representative in the Government since Independence. Today there is vacuum. It's high time that Catholics and Christians have a strong representative in the government (Or in the opposition) who will safeguard and protect them against such atrocities.

Mr.Lionel, begging may not be allowed but feeding the hungry was never a crime. It is easy to say begging is not allowed. But I dare you to go hungry for days on end without any hope of having anyone feed you or be able to feed yourself. Shame on you being a Christian ( at least in name) you fail to see the need of your hungry brothers and sisters even if they belong to another caste or religion.
On a positive note in the words of St.Anthony Zaccaria, "We should feel love and compassion for those who oppose us, since they harm themselves and do us good, and adorn us with crowns of everlasting glory." As this Christmas season approaches let us all join in prayers for those who persecute us.
White doves continue with your good work. You are doing more than what we all as Christians ought to do.

Is India a democratic, secular country? Are we ruled by our Constitution or Hindu fundamentalism? The police action once again raises serious doubts and questions. The incident again shows that BJP goverment in Karnataka is the other side of the Sangh Parivar. To brand every activites under the banner of "conversion" and harassing Christians and bring them under "control" seems to the agenda of BJP/Sangh Parivar. The police order "not to engage in such work as some segments of society may eye such activity as ‘conversion’" sounds stange and echos a "goonda Raj" in Karnataka. However such incidents donot hinder Christians to continue their good work in our society. Carry on your good works WHite Doves!! May God bless you.

Dear Calvin, you are right. Nobody can convert a person unless he himself converts. Conversion is not like changing from dhoti to pants, it is not a cosmetic change. Moreover, statistics speak that Christians are less then 2.5% of the Indian population even inspite of at least two centuries of having done humanitarian work in the fields of healthcare, education, caring for orphans, destitute women, the aged, etc. Surely, if the basic agenda in doing such work was the conversion to Christianity of the beneficiaries, the percentage of Christians in this country should have been of far greater than 2.5%!!!

The ISKON temple's mid-day meal program was similarly targeted by none other than former PM (from the state) in a shabby manner. Good and matured people like White Doves and ISKON should continue good work without expectation of rewards or praise as mentioned in Bhagawadgita.

Dear Lionel D'souza, I agree to your point. But, if the government has set up beggar homes, they should also take the beggars off the streets and rehabilitate them in these homes, which they obviously have not done since we still see so many beggars all over the place. The beggars cannot be expected to have the knowledge of these beggar homes set up by the govt. Organizations like White Doves are trying to fill the gap that the govt has created. It looks like you belong to the ilk of people who would rather see people dying of hunger just to see the law implemented. Law for law's sake? No, law is for the people's sake. If the govt could provide jobs and food for all the people, the whole of this nation could have been "converted" into good human beings.

Thank you all for your support for a good cause. Well we have been feeding the hungry the homeless the handicapped men and women since 15 years from 20 packets of food we are distributing 50 packets everyday to the poor. Mr Lionel you say we are wrong... well when you see people dying without food which I have seen should I close my eyes and wait for the Government to feed them? I have to answer God for this .

Well we were not in any way blocking the road. It was pre planned as the Inspector himself said we were waiting for your vehicle since 5 pm. Ramalingappa and the ACP Jaganath spoke rudely and asked us to put up a building or an apartment and feed these people. we are already housing and looking after 86 brothers and sister irrespective of caste in our two homes. Police themselves bring mentally disturbed people for addmission to white doves home. We insisted what was our mistake and the police officer did not have an answer instead he was making fun of us asking us to speak only in kannada. The police officer's asked us to stay on till Mr Tilak the Inspector comes to the station.

And instructed the police to inspect the vehicle and have also taken away the license of our driver. We are not terrorist or drug dealers to detain us in the station and also cause us humiliation. We will continue the work of feeding the hungry sorry brother Lionel of Bangalore may God give you good sense.

How desparately these guys are trying to produce one genuine case for conversion. If they produce one genuine case and if it is proved by competent authorities that a particular organisation or a person is involved in conversion activities they should be severely punished as per the law. But simply laying baseless false allegations and claiming I/we have enough evidence and so on, until and unless it is brought to the notice of the authorities to deal with it without taking the law in their hands it is nothing but hatered and intolerance towards the weaker section of the society, in fact these baseless claims are punishable by law for harassment, threat and defamation.

White Doves was distributing food to the beggars what crime is that. Police are corrupt and only want to extract money. At least some people are there ion this world who have concern for the hungry. . Shame on the police. we condemn Ramalingappa. Most corrupt I agree.

White Doves is the only NGO doing sincere work so 15 years. I am a witness when they have distributed food every night near the Railway station. Giving food is not conversion. Jealous people are behaving like this. Ramalingappa is a corrupt official. May be he wanted some money and so was haressing genuine people.

Some cannot see the good work done by White Doves in Kanara. They became blind when they saw White Doves spreading Christmas message through exhibition. Van seizing is nothing but harrassment by these power hungry plice personnel. Hope White Doves receive justice as soon as possible.
