Mangaluru, Nov 28: A group of 23 filmmaking students from Nitte Institute of Communication (NICO) attended the prestigious International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2024 in Goa. The students attended enlightening sessions conducted by renowned personalities, including actors Manoj Bajpayee, Anupam Kher, Randeep Hooda, Ranbir Kapoor, Nagarjuna, and Naga Chaitanya. They also had the rare chance to learn from acclaimed filmmakers like Mani Ratnam, Rana Daggubati, and Tisca Chopra. These interactions provided invaluable glimpses into the creative processes, challenges, and trends shaping contemporary cinema.

The festival showcased a diverse array of films from across the globe. Among the standout screenings were films that had won accolades at Cannes, including All We Imagine as Light, Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know, and Be Qayaam. These thought-provoking films offered the students a deeper appreciation of storytelling techniques and global cinematic trends.

In addition to film screenings, the students participated in masterclasses focusing on key aspects of filmmaking such as sound design, cinematography, and film distribution. These sessions, conducted by industry experts, provided technical knowledge and practical skills crucial for aspiring filmmakers.

The cultural experience of IFFI extended beyond films, as the festival also featured captivating musical performances by popular bands like Yellow Diaries and When Chai Met Toast. These performances added a vibrant dimension to the event, highlighting the synergy between music and cinema.

Exposure to such a dynamic environment broadened the students’ understanding of the global film industry. It also provided opportunities to network with professionals, opening doors to potential collaborations and career prospects.

Prakash K, assistant professor at NICO, accompanied the students during the festival. They returned with a wealth of knowledge, inspiration, and a renewed passion for filmmaking. Attending IFFI 2024 was not only an academic enrichment but also a memorable chapter in their journey as budding filmmakers. It reinforced the importance of cinema as a medium for storytelling, cultural exchange, and creative expression.
