Udupi, Dec 17: “Computers will disappear in the coming days and internet facilities will be available on mobile phones, watches, and other gadgets.  However, as technological advances take place, uncertainty and anxiety will prevail,” said Professor Lalit Mohan Patnaik, professor, Indian Science Institute, Bangalore, and former vice chancellor of Defence Institute of Advances Technology, Pune.

Professor Mohan was speaking after inaugurating the UGC-sponsored national seminar on ‘Recent Trends in Communication’ that was held at Milagres College, Kallianpur, on Friday December 16.

Professor Lalit shed light on the connectivity of mobile handsets, optic fiber and satellites, and the existing situation of the internet that has become a part of daily living. Milagres College principal Dr Neri Cornelio presided over the programme. Milagress Education Institutes correspondent Fr Stany B Lobo graced the occasion.

Pilikula Regional Science Centre director Dr K V Rao, ISRO satellite division scientist, and Devdas Shenoy were the chief guests on the occasion. Seminar organizer Professor Archana K Dabade welcomed the gathering.  Mangalore University Physics Lecturers Association president Dr Gerald Pinto proposed the vote of thanks. Professor Joseph Peter Fernandes compered the programme.
