Mangaluru: 537th birth anniversary of Saint Kanakadasa celebrated

Mangaluru, Dec 2: The 537th birth anniversary of Saint Sri Kanakadasa was celebrated with grandeur on Sunday. The event, organized by the Karavali Halumata Kurubara Sangha, Dakshina Kannada, began with a vibrant procession featuring a portrait of Kanakadasa, Dollu Kunitha dancers, and a traditional Kumba Mela of girls. The procession commenced at Sri Shirdi Sai Baba Mandir, Chilimbi, and culminated at the Gokarnanatha College auditorium.

The procession was flagged off by Vishwas Kumar Das, chief administrator of Chilimbi Sri Shirdi Saibaba Mandir.

A stage programme was held at the Gokarnanatha College auditorium following the procession. It was inaugurated by Manjula Nayak, president of Samarasya Vedike. Thinker and writer M G Hegde unveiled the logo of the association. Merit awards were distributed to SSLC and PU students during the event. Dhanu B R Gowda, state chief secretary of Sangolli Rayanna Yuva Garjane, concluded the programme.

Several dignitaries graced the event, including Chandrappa B K, president of Karavali Halumata Kurubara Sangha, honorary president D S Nagarala, working president Arun Kumar, former president Puttappa K K, honorary advisor Hanumantha Ronada, vice president Hanumanthappa Y Naragunda, Laxmi Hire Kurubar, chief secretary Yamunappa H, joint secretary Sharanappa, treasurer Manjunath, co-treasurer Basavaraja, organizing secretary Shivaraj, and others.
