Mangaluru, Dec 10: The 145th Annual Day of St Aloysius Pre-University College was celebrated with grandeur on, at the college grounds, under the theme 'Rising with Purpose, Transforming the Future'. The event commenced with the NCC team escorting the dignitaries to the venue. The atmosphere was filled with anticipation as the college choir presented a soul-stirring rendition of 'Be a Light’, inspiring hope, illuminating the path ahead and invoking God’s presence for a memorable evening.
The chief guest on the occasion, KS Arun Prabha, general manager, Mangaluru Smart City Limited, an esteemed alumnus of St Aloysius PU College, expressed heartfelt gratitude for being invited to the 145th College Day celebration. Reflecting on his alma mater, he shared deep reverence for the management of St Aloysius institutions and acknowledged the invaluable role of his teachers and the institution in shaping his life. He highlighted that the students of Aloysius should be agents of transformation, and are destined to shine in every role they undertake. He praised the institution for igniting a spark of energy and innovation in the youth.
In a heartfelt note, K S Arun Prabha shared that his entire family owes much to the institution for shaping their lives and expressed sincere gratitude to the management and lauded the college's enduring spirit of excellence and creativity.
In his presidential address, Fr Melwin Pinto SJ, rector of St Aloysius Institutions, remarked that while the cultural programme is often the highlight of a College Day celebration, the Roll of Honour presented to the successful students is very significant and it showcases the collective contributions of staff, parents, and students.
Drawing attention to the concept of Ubuntu, which means ‘I am because we are’, he emphasized the interconnectedness of success. He reminded everyone that no one shines alone; every achievement reflects the efforts and support of those who have contributed along the way.
The rector further reflected on the beauty of diversity and noted that this diversity symbolizes togetherness and harmony. Reiterating the essence of Ubuntu, he explained that it is about rejoicing in the joy of others and embracing collective happiness. He concluded his address by encouraging everyone to let the spirit of Ubuntu be etched in their hearts, fostering unity and shared joy in all aspects of life.
The award distribution ceremony was a highlight of the day, with Vilma Fernandes, vice principal of arts and commerce and Anisha Andrade, HOD, mathematics enumerating the names of academic and sports achievers. Scholarship prizes and memorial awards for outstanding student contributions in national events were also handed out. The awards celebrated the perseverance and hardwork of students who excelled in various fields.
Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ, principal of the institution, presented the annual report, which reflected on a year filled with notable achievements across academic, cultural, and extracurricular activities. The report also underscored the college’s commitment to social causes, environmental protection, and fostering communal harmony. A captivating video presentation provided a glimpse into the vibrant activities that shaped the year. The Principal expressed gratitude to the Almighty, the parents, the faculty, and well-wishers for their unwavering support in ensuring the successful completion of the academic year.
The formal proceedings were followed by an engaging cultural programme that showcased diverse performances, including a thematic dance symbolizing youth's connection with nature, a tribute to Remo D’Souza overcoming grief through art, and a performance on Aladdin celebrating self-sacrifice.
The college choir inspired the gathering with a soulful rendition on self-embrace, while a powerful dance depicted Virat Kohli's life struggles and comeback. A touching tribute to Vandana Shiva and the farmers’ highlighted compassion's transformative power, and a drama on Ekalavya showcased perseverance against societal barriers. The programme concluded with a dance, emphasizing youth's resilience in overcoming adversity, leaving the audience inspired and empowered.
Present on the occasion were Fr Pradeep Sequeira SJ, finance officer, Fr Anthony Derrick SJ, campus minister, the Dean, Kiran Shetty; and the Students' Council, including president Iresh Kishan Shetty, vice president Jeevan D’Mello, secretary Alyson D’Silva, joint secretary Elishia Joan Baptist, cultural secretaries Bianca Bambina D’Souza and Brithi Hegde, sports secretaries Simone D’Souza and Sandeep Anthony.
The vice principal of science, Muralikrishna G M introduced the chief guest to the gathering. Sarah Crasta delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to making the event a success. The masters of ceremonies, Tanish Salian, Tia Eustace, Aarav Agarwal, Angel Noronha and Shayden Pinto students of I and II PUC, did an excellent job in guiding the event with poise and professionalism.
The event was coordinated by Alwin D’Souza, Mohan Raj, Sophronia G Maben and Anisha Dina Moras, who ensured the smooth conduct of the day’s festivities. The evening was a resounding success, leaving parents and students with cherished memories of the college’s 145th Annual Day celebration.
