Udupi, Dec 17: To support the traditional artisans of India, the Vishwakarma Scheme has received over 11 lac applications in Karnataka alone. In the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency, more than 60,000 individuals from economically weaker sections have applied for the scheme. Out of these, over 7,000 beneficiaries have already received training.
However, addressing delays in loan disbursement through nationalized banks, Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojary met union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and urged her to ensure smooth and timely loan distribution under the Vishwakarma Scheme.
While some nationalized banks have been cooperative, there are instances where certain branches are imposing unnecessary conditions. These include demanding affidavits exceeding the stipulated fee of Rs 250, denying loans based on CIBIL scores despite repayments during the pandemic, and requesting GST bills. Such practices have caused delays, leaving many artisans waiting for financial assistance.
MP Kota emphasized that banks should adhere to the guidelines of the Vishwakarma Scheme, which comes with central government assurances. Responding to his appeal, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman assured prompt action and instructed banks to facilitate loan approvals without delay.
